Whedon is best known as the creator of the transmedia franchises <i>Buffy the Vampire Slayer<\/i> and <i>Firefly,<\/i> as well as the upcoming sci-fi\/drama <i>Dollhouse,<\/i> but it&#8217;s his recent experiment with independently producing (and monetizing) the superhero-romantic-comedy-musical <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.drhorrible.com\/\">Dr. Horrible&#8217;s Sing-Along Blog<\/a><\/i> that has us currently sitting up and taking notes.<br \/>\nCreated during the writer&#8217;s strike and produced on a shoestring budget (approximately $200,000 and a lot of favors), <i>Dr. Horrible<\/i> was initially released for free online, then strategically taken down and put up for purchase on iTunes and finally released on DVD (complete with extras including fan-generated videos and <i>Commentary: The Musical!<\/i>) through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/news\/story\/Web-Based-Series-Dr-Horribles\/story.aspx?guid={F80C9709-FC8D-4092-9D44-3B95EB8D60B1}\">Amazon&#8217;s on-demand DVD authoring system<\/a>.
