\nWhat is next in art? What is left?
\nLet us turn inwards, perhaps,
\nWhat would it be like if urban sculptors and animators and designers
\nMoved on to the next bit of the cycle,
\nChecked the grotesque and shocking off their to-do lists
\nAnd turned their playful gaze
\nTo the issues of the renaissance,
\nAfter all, isn’t that what we need now,
\nA renaissance or re-enlightenment,
\nTo see us through the great recession?
\nWhat would Leonardo Da Vinci have created in Flash?
\nWhat would Michelangelo have sculpted in vinyl?
\nWhat is the shape of happiness when semen and stains aren’t involved?
\nSkateboards are done, the city is done,
\nLet us turn for the Next Big Thing to the wilds and the villages,
\nLet us recognize the beauty in the local hyperlocal,
\nLet us know what art is being made in a tiny town a hundred miles outside Vienna,
\nLet us see what is being made a hundred miles from anywhere,
\nWhat is being filmed, what is being written,
\nWhat is life when the headlines are gone, when the clich\u00c3\u00a9s are gone,
\nWhat is life beyond the chemical and the Hollywood, the Bollywood,
\nWhat is the story of the marriage that isn’t driven apart,
\nWhat is the good life still good,
\nWhat is the love and peace and quietude that isn’t small-town racism,
\nWhat is the wisdom of the corner store, the bodega, the spa,
\nThese lives that aren’t constant clich\u00c3\u00a9d struggle but are in fact still wondrous things,
\nLife in cars with fast food hamburgers and iPods and conversations,
\nLate night joes told over hot chocolate at Denny’s,
\nBand practice in the basement or out in the garage,
\nDreaming not of fame and fortune but of being right here,
\nOf being in the music, the story, the art,
\nOf doing what they’re doing and having that be amazing,
\nHave it be enough, how much is enough,
