{"id":1324,"date":"2006-12-13T11:58:51","date_gmt":"2006-12-13T11:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.geoffreylong.com\/wordpress\/?p=1324"},"modified":"2006-12-13T11:58:51","modified_gmt":"2006-12-13T11:58:51","slug":"warning-brain-mess-ahead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.geoffreylong.com\/wordpress\/archives\/1324","title":{"rendered":"WARNING: BRAIN MESS AHEAD."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s the end of the semester and my brain is going <i>haywire.<\/i>  I have at least two major papers to write, each one in the 15-20 page range; I need to finish my Christmas shopping; I have some client-type projects that have to be polished off&#8230;  Arg!<br \/>\nI find tackling a day of such magnitude (well, <i>week;<\/i> there&#8217;s no way I can finish all of this today) is like tackling a big meal.  First, cleanse the palate.  To that end, a collection of links I wish to share with all you peeps out in peepland.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ea.com\/article.jsp?dcr=ea&#038;id=chicago_studio\">EA Opens Chicago Studio.<\/a><\/b>  There would be definitely worse lives &#150; I wouldn&#8217;t mind moving back to Chicago for a couple of years, but I&#8217;m not sure EA is the best employer for a guy who doesn&#8217;t play that many sports games.\n<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"http:\/\/news.com.com\/A+revamped+Yahoo+turning+to+users\/2100-1025_3-6141568.html\">A Revamped Yahoo Turning to Users.<\/b><\/a>  Since Yahoo! is now one of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.convergenceculture.org\">C3<\/a> partners, I&#8217;ve been paying a lot of attention to what&#8217;s going down over there.  The pros: they&#8217;re cranking up the stuff we&#8217;re talking about: user-generated content, folksonomy tagging, social networking, etc.  The cons: they&#8217;re dialing down the stuff I&#8217;m the most interested in, like providing original IPTV content.\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.sciam.com\/index.php?title=comic_books_looove_string_theory&#038;more=1&#038;c=1&#038;tb=1&#038;pb=1\"><b>String Theory in <i>Ex Machina.<\/i><\/b><\/a>  &#8220;It&#8217;s not about the branes, it&#8217;s about the bulk.&#8221;  I love it.\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/web.mit.edu\/sp.778\/www\/pages\/syllabus.html\"><b>Me and Toys.<\/b><\/a> How cool is this?  I&#8217;m going to be giving a guest lecture for my friend (and one of the most inspiring people I&#8217;ve ever met, OMG, look at the stuff he&#8217;s done!) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wonderbarry.com\">Barry Kudrowitz&#8217;s<\/a> toymaking class this spring.  Be sure to check out Barry&#8217;s appearance in <a href=\"http:\/\/psychologicalscience.org\/observer\/getArticle.cfm?id=2104\"><i>Psychological Science<\/i><\/a>, of all places.\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/2006\/11\/30\/books-publishing-internet-tech-media_cx_mm_mn_books06_1201book_land.html?partner=rss\"><b><i>Forbes<\/i> on Books.<\/b><\/a> Excellent report from <i>Forbes<\/i> on the current trends in publishing.  I love the whole counterintuitiveness of Cory Doctorow&#8217;s giving-books-away-sells-books and Internet-breeds-literacy concepts.  Hey, I bought <i>my<\/i> copy of <i>Eastern Standard Tribe<\/i> after reading it online&#8230;\n<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/news.com.com\/Xbox+360+meets+PS3%2C+and+its+ready+to+rumble\/2100-1043_3-6142722.html?tag=nefd.pulse\"><b>Xbox ready to rumble against PS3.<\/b><\/a> Sounds like all the similarities are more remarkable than the differences.\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More to come, obviously&#8230;  Onward!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s the end of the semester and my brain is going haywire.
