When he first heard the news on the radio
\nhe couldn’t believe it —
\nso he switched on the television,
\nsince visuals were harder to fake than words.
\nWhen he saw it on CNN he still didn’t buy it,
\nso he enlisted in the service to see for himself.
\nHe went through the training, received his orders,
\nwent halfway around the world and still didn’t believe.
\nHe completed his tour of duty but still wasn’t satisfied,
\nso he enrolled at University in a country he couldn’t pronounce.
\nHe learned everything they taught but still wasn’t convinced,
\nso he took a job that would het him observe
\nas much as he wanted, as often as he wanted,
\nwhenever and wherever he wanted,
\nwhoever he wanted, for any reason he wanted,
\nbut still he didn’t believe.
\nAt the end of his days he’d seen all he could see,
\ndid all he could do, went everywhere he could go,
\nbut he couldn’t bring himself to believe.
\nFinally he did the only thing he could do —
\nhe returned to where it all began.
\nHe went into the house,
\nhe went into the room,
\nhe climbed into the bed,
\nhe turned off the lights,
\nhe closed his eyes,
\nhe held his breath,
